Structural Waterproofing
BS 8102.3.1.1 para 3 states "Almost
all basement structures are likely to be subjected to
water pressure at some period of life - it is therefore
recommended that basements should include provision
for resisting a hydrostatic pressure equivalent to 2m
head of water at least"
The need to maximise the potential
of a building plot or to overcome planning requirements
concerning roof height restrictions,means there has
been an increased requirement for developers to build
below the line of existing ground level.
In Europe, the use of basements as
habitable rooms to dwellings is very much traditional
and we in the UK are some way behind this concept, by
comparison.
For habitable basement rooms to function
satisfactory,the problems associated with rising damp
and diluted salts must be eradicated.
Typical deteriation of the structure
will be visible with blowing plaster, timber decay and
mold growth which in turn causes considerable loss of
heat, damage to finishings and decoration and unhealthy
room environments.
Water in conjunction with salts is
the cause of practically all damage to building substance.
Due to the way they were constructed,
old buildings are often insufficiently protected against
ingress from laterally penetrating and rising damp.

for a number of reputable waterproofing system manufacturers
and together, have solutions to treat existing buildings
and new build projects that we would be happy to discuss
with you or your designers with an aim to provide the
most suitable solution.
Our in house application teams are
all trained to use the systems we offer by the manufacturers.
Installations shall receive a "back
to back" warrantee with the manufacturer for the
appropriate time scale.
